The Gunite Pool Building Process

If you want a fully customizable pool that will last for a lifetime then gunite is the type of pool for you. That’s why millions of people across the country go with gunite for their backyard oasis.

Design and Permits

First, we’ll come to your home and take the appropriate measurements. Our experienced pool designers will listen to your vision and work with you to bring it to reality.

Then we show you a 3D rendition of your pool to see what it looks like before you commit to building it. And, of course, we can alter it and make additions to your heart’s desire.

Once it looks just like you want it, you’ll sign a contract, and we’ll go to work getting the permits for the on-site build. The timeline on this varies, depending on your county.

Layout and Excavation

We mark out the dimensions of your pool on your property. Then an excavation crew will dig the site according to engineering plans. Dig time varies based on your topography. Hard soil and excessive groundwater can take a bit longer for the dig. Also, a sloping yard will require a retaining wall before construction can move to the next phase.

Plumbing and Electrical Equipment

Next, we run plumbing lines for your pool circulation and filtration, electrical lines for your pool equipment and in-pool lights, and any gas lines needed for fire features or outdoor kitchens.

Pool ExcavationRebar Setup

Following the engineering plans, we install the steel skeleton to reinforce your pool shell. This rebar framework consists of vertical and horizontal bars that add strength to your pool’s foundation.

Gunite Application

Our contractors spray gunite through a high-pressure nozzle over the rebar. During this step, additional features like steps and tanning shelves are built upon the structure.

Then the contractors will let the gunite cure for a few days. Curing allows for proper bonding of the gunite to create a long-lasting shell. Then you’ll need to water your shell 2 to 3 times a day for 7 to 10 days to help finish the process.

Tile, Coping, and Decking

As the pool shell cures, we will then add perimeter tile and pool coping. We’ll also add fireplaces, deck jets, or sheer descents during this phase.

After this stage, pool pumps, heaters, and other equipment.

Gunite Pool Plaster

Pool Interior and Landscaping

Lastly, we finish the interior with waterproof plaster or pebble aggregate, depending on the finish you choose. Then we start filling the pool with water, which can take 16 to 24 hours depending on the water pressure coming into your house.

Then the pool interior needs to be brushed to remove plaster dust.

Whatever landscaping might be left is completed at this stage.

Pool Startup

Every piece of equipment installed is tested to ensure proper function. After the final cleanup, we add water, balance the chemicals, and then start up your pool.

The last phase is the pool handover. This is where we schedule an orientation and explain how to operate the equipment and maintain your pool and chemistry. Now your pool is ready!
